Activities at Home (Choose 2 on top of the Journey Board Project)
Choose from the below activities. Everyone does the journey board, but from there choose only the activities that you think would be of most interest to your family! I have recommended some activities in case you are having trouble choosing, but you do NOT have to do my recommended activities. choose any of the below on top of the Journey Board!
EVERYONE DOES: Growth in Holiness Journey Board (p. 75)
EVERYONE DOES: Saint of the Month as part of Journey Board (p. 76)
Highly Recommended: Jesus' Parables: The Good Shepherd and Lost Coint (p. 70)
You may want to paste the modern Act of Contrition in your Parent Guide on page 71. Copies of it were provided at the Parent Meeting. The book has the old form which is still valid, but it is not what the children learn at St. Mary's
Modern Act of contrition: My God, I am sorry for my sins with all my heart. In choosing to do wrong and failing to do good, I have sinned against you whom I should love above all things. I firmly intend, with your help, to do penance, to sin no more, and to avoid whatever leads me to sin. Our Savior Jesus Christ suffered and died for us.In his name, my God, have mercy.
Recommended: What is Sin? (p. 64)
For older children: Understanding Mortal Sin (p. 66)
Lost (p. 64)
Identifying the Precepts of the Church (p. 73)
Alternates - Video Discussion not found in the book (Watch the 2 Videos and discuss the questions below to complete this activity)
NOTE there is one violent analogy in this video about bull fighting. Recommended for older kids.
Some people try to say all sin is the same, whether you took someone's pencil or killed someone. Do you think God sees stealing a pencil as just as bad as murder, or does God understand that there are different types of sin?
In the Bible, we hear all wrongdoing is sin but not all sins are deadly. We call sins that are deadly to our souls "mortal sin" and less serious sins "venial sin." Venial sins hurt our relationship with God, but what does mortal sin do to our relationship with God?
What are the three conditions that have to be met for a sin to be mortal?
Even if we commit a mortal sin, God still forgives. He loves us and is infinitely merciful. There is no sin He can't forgive. What Sacrament should we go to to receive God's mercy if we commit a mortal sin, or to help us strengthen our relationship after venial sins?
