Everyone is touched by cancer. All women of the parish are invited to hear Dr. Karla Calumet, who completed her research on the phenomenon of hope and how this impacts the health of women who have been diagnosed with breast cancer and found that it makes a positive difference. Scientists now know that hope fosters more positive health outcomes in most diseases. Hope can actually be measured in people with a scientific instrument known as “The Hope Scale.” Dr. Karla’s work involves teaching how individuals can be more hopeful, as in her recent book: “Hope Matters! Positive Health In Breast Cancer & Beyond.” She presented this research at UC Berkeley in September at a scientific conference.
Dr. Karla lives in West Des Moines and has a show on Iowa Catholic Radio. She has a Doctorate in Psychology and a Masters in Health Administration. Her book will be available for purchase after the meeting for $9.99 + tax.
