Whether you just moved in from another city or you are registering for the first time, we are glad you are interested in Faith Formation at St. Mary’s! We strive to offer quality religious education that provides faith formation for your children, as well as the opportunity to pray together and form community with other members of our parish. Faith Formation at St. Mary’s is an excellent, comprehensive program in Catechesis, designed to help meet the spiritual needs of your family.
Two sessions in children’s classes are offered each Wednesday evening, September –April for grades K through 8.
5:30pm to 6:30pm – K – 8th Grades
7:00pm to 8:00pm – 1st – 8th Grades
7:00pm to 8:45pm – Youth Group 9th – 12th Grades
SACRAMENTAL PREP BAPTISM INFORMATION:
If you are a new member of St. Mary of Nazareth, please submit copies of baptismal certificates for each child with the completed registration form.
At St. Mary of Nazareth, Sacramental Prep for First Reconciliation and First Communion is the focus of Catechesis in Second Grade. If you have a child entering 1st grade, make sure you register them. Without 1stgrade prep, your child will not be able to make their First Reconciliation & First Communion in 2nd grade. In addition to class time, this includes a First Reconciliation Workshop in January and Jesus Day in the spring, as well as ways for you to focus on the Sacraments as a family.
CONFIRMATION – IMPORTANT CONFIRMATION ANNOUNCEMENT FOR 8TH GRADE FALL OF 2016
NEW FOR 2016: Confirmation Prep is a two year commitment beginning in 8th grade. Students who will be in 8th grade in the fall of 2016, will be expected to register AND attend 8th grade class each week on Wednesday nights. You will receive a letter in August 2016 explaining the Confirmation process. There will be a mandatory parent & student meeting the first night of Faith Formation class in September.
Confirmation takes place in 10th grade. Preparation for Confirmation includes participation in Faith Formation classes through 8th grade and attending mandatory Confirmation Prep sessions that will take place in 9th and 10th grades. Students are encouraged to attend Youth Group on Wednesday nights from 7pm to 8:45pmto enhance their Confirmation prep. Please contact the Faith Formation office for detailed information on our 2 year Confirmation Prep program.
OUT OF SYNC??
If your child happens to be “out of sync” and has not yet received the Sacraments, a simple phone call to the Faith Formation office will help you get started.
Our Faith Formation & Youth Group programs rely solely on volunteers.
If you would like to be a catechist, class room assistant or on the Youth Group Core Team, the registration fee is waived and you can volunteer at any session, regardless of the grades your children are in.
A background check and VIRTUS training is required . VIRTUS training is a short online training session on what is expected from our volunteers in “Protecting God’s Children.”
You must complete VIRTUS training before the first class session. VIRTUS training can be completed online in approximately 45 minutes.
